It includes information on new documents, team members, partnerships with industry and foundations, and progress on ACTIVATE Africa in various countries. Feedback on desired content for future editions is welcome.

Partnership Matters – Foundations:

  • Productive discussions with potential funding partners including:
    • The Mastercard Foundation
    • The Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation
    • Wellcome Trust
    • The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
    • The European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP)
    • The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF)

Technical Strategy:

  • Current versions of strategy documents are posted to the ACTIVATE SharePoint Site.

New Team Members:

Esayas M: Appointed as the PA Focal Point to Ethiopia, joining from The Ethiopian Public Health Institute.

Partnership Matters – Industry:

  • Discussions with potential CRO partners PPD and Fortrea to develop MoUs for clinical trials capacity building.
  • Agreement with TriNetX in progress to enhance data visibility for clinical trials and real-world analytics, with plans for data commercialization adhering to all relevant policies and regulations.

ACTIVATE Africa: Programming for Sustainable Capacity

Country Updates:

Ethiopia:

  • Multiple high-level meetings with Hon. Minister to set strategic direction.
  • Establishment of two working groups for data science and clinical research.
  • Appointment of a Government Focal Point for regular communication.
  • Investment Case development initiated with assessments at 20 sites.

Rwanda:

  • High-level meeting with Hon. Minister and stakeholders leading to agreement on next steps.
  • Formation of a consortium to lead Investment Case development.

Nigeria:

  • Ongoing initiatives and strategic directions being implemented and established.
